TCI

Are you a man measuring 6'2" or more in height; a woman 5'10" or more? Are you 21 years old or more? These are the only real requirements to join a TCI tall club near you. All TCI member clubs except one have these minimum requirements for membership. Only the first original Tall Club formed by the TCI Founder, The California TipToppers, still maintain slightly stricter standards requiring 6' for women and 6'4" for men.
TCI is an IRS-designated not-for-profit social organization for tall adults. With over 50 member clubs and approximately 2000 members, spanning the United States and Canada, TCI is truly an international organization.
TCI's stated purpose is to promote tall awareness among tall men and women, and in the community. To provide social activities of mutual interest, travel to cities around the U.S. & Canada for gatherings including members from several TCI clubs, run a convention each year to conduct the business of the Corporation with representatives of all clubs, & select a new Miss Tall International®, the official public representative and goodwill ambassador for TCI...

Sea Scorpion Found

Scientists from Engand have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever knoun. The discovery in 390-million-year-old rocks suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar creatures were far larger in the past than previously thought, said Simon Braddy, a University of Bristol paleontologist and one of the study's three authors. This is an amazing discovery, he said. He said that they have known for some time that the fossil record yields monster millipedes, super-sized scorpions, colossal cockroaches, and jumbo dragonflies. But they never realized until now just how big some of these ancient creepy-crawlies were. The research found a type of sea scorpion that was almost half a yard longer than previous estimates and the largest one ever to have evolved.

Alphabet By Steve Martin

The 62-year-old Martin, famous for his "wild and crazy" standup act in the 1970s, has turned increasingly to the page in recent years, writing plays, novels, humor pieces in The New Yorker, home to such literary wits as E.B. White and James Thurber. A memoir comes out in November. "From A to Y" is a nonsense ride across time and rhyme, with highlights including "H" ("Henrietta the hare wore a habit in heaven/Her hairdo hid hunchbacks: one hundred and seven") and "N" ("Needle-nosed Nigel won nine kinds of knockwurst/By winning a contest to see who could knock wurst"). Martin is a bookish man, but he wasn't thinking of any authors when writing "From A to Y." Not Thurber, White or Edward Lear. Not Dr. Seuss, whom he didn't read until his 20s. Maybe Ogden Nash. "I did grow up on Ogden Nash," he says in a recent telephone interview, "but I'm not sure if that fits here." Martin began working on "From A to Y" a couple of years ago. Like a good boy eating his vegetables first, he took on the hard letters, like "X" (if "Ambidextrous Alex was actually axed" counts as "X"), before digging in to such treats as "A" and "E." Asked to name his favorite letter (an improvement over being asked his favorite color), Martin pauses. "Gee." "Gee," as in "giraffe"? No, "Gee," as in "Gee, whiz." "I always liked 'Q.' ...

Madonna With The Yarnwinder

"Madonna with the Yarnwinder" had been stolen in August 2003 from Drumlanrig Castle in Scotland's southwest by thieves posing as tourists, who snatched the Da Vinci from its fireproof case in the castle's oak staircase gallery, then fled in a waiting car. "We're extremely pleased to recover the 'Madonna Of The Yarnwinder' painting," said Detective Chief Inspector Mickey Dalgleish, after what was described as a major police operation in the Glasgow area. "Through careful investigations & intelligence-led police work we were able to locate the painting & make 4 arrests. "I would like to thank all staff involved in this investigation, partner police forces & agencies as well as members of the public for supplying crucial information." The theft of the painting, dated 1501, was listed by the FBI as one of the world's top ten art crimes of recent years.

George Clooney, 46

After many years of taking what was offered, Clooney took charge of his career. The result has left the former star of TV's "ER" an Academy Award-winning actor & Oscar-nominated filmmaker who uses his stardom to do films he truly cares about, including the new legal drama "Michael Clayton," opening Friday in several cities. Clooney now can look back on far-flung projects as an actor, writer, director & producer, sometimes handling all 4 jobs at once. George has traded on his commercial clout from such hits as "The Perfect Storm", the "Ocean's Eleven" flicks to make demanding dramas like 2005's "Syriana," which earned Clooney a supporting-actor Oscar, & "Good Night, & Good Luck," a best-picture nominee that brought him directing & screenwriting nominations the same year. It's a major turnabout for a man who hated the publicity tour he had to do for "Batman & Robin" in 1997. It was really hard, because he knew it wasn't a very good film, & it makes you a liar, sort of, but you have to, because it's your job to promote a film, Clooney said in an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival. He was like, he doesn't want to tour again for a film that doesn't work on any level...
