Poverty Is Spreading At Record Level In The U.S.

Poverty is spreading at record level across the U.S., including suburbs, such as Colorado, Florida and Nevada, where voters are coping with a new norm of living hand to mouth. Census figures for 2011 will be released before the November elections. The economists and academics came to conclusion that the official poverty rate will rise from 15.1 % in 2010 to 15.7 %. However, even a 0.1 percentage point increase would put poverty at the highest level since 1965 - the ranks of America's poor climb to levels unseen in nearly half a century.

The Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Globalization

The Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of GlobalizationThe Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Globalization (5 volumes) by George Ritzer (editor) (Wonderbook of July 2012) published by Wiley in 2012. This encyclopedia contains over 600 entries and demonstrates that globalization is a term that encompasses systems, structures, and processes across a broad range of social contexts and academic disciplines. Globalization as a term speaks for everyone. Many feminists and postcolonial thinkers argue that the processes of globalization do not affect all nations, regions, people in the same manner. Global mobilities, capabilities, and potentialities are differentially experience throughout a 'power-geometry'. Two decades ago, it would have been impossible to create an encyclopedia of globalization. The origins of this encyclopedia lie in the first decade of the 21st century. A great number of very contemporary concepts are treated in these pages including such as casino-politanism, cathedrals of consumption, civilization, creolization, cyberspace, deglobalization, disembedding, distanciation, easternization, empire, flatworld, flexibilization, flows, frictions, globophilia, grobalization, human trafficking, hyperreality, imagined communities, informationalism, insourcing, liquidity, non-place and place, runaway world, sex segregation, much more. In many cases, the concepts covered in this encyclopedia were developed in contemporary work on globalization, however, in other cases they originated in different contexts. This encyclopedia offers the readers a strong sense of globalization and of a wide range of social-science concepts. Every moment, the globalization is expanding and changing. As a result, all the entries will need to be modified in the coming years. The present encyclopedia examines the founding theories and addresses the realities of globalization today. George Ritzer is the author of numerous books, he is Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland with awards, including American Sociological Association's Distinguished Contribution to Teaching Award.
